How to play 4 Numbers
4 Numbers is a free daily code-breaking puzzle, like Wordle with digits or the classic Mastermind and Bulls and Cows games. Every day at 00:00 UTC a new secret 4-digit code appears, the same for every player in the world. Your goal is to crack it in as few tries as possible.
- Type a guess. Enter any four digits from 0000 to 9999 with the keypad or your keyboard and press Check.
- Read the colours. Green means the right digit in the right place. Yellow means the digit is in the code but somewhere else. Grey means the digit is not in the code, or every copy of it is already counted.
- Use the hint. Above the board you see how digits repeat in today's code: all different, one pair, two pairs, a triple or four of a kind.
- Narrow it down. After you solve the code, a funnel shows how many codes were still possible after each try.
Strategy tips
Open with four different digits, such as 1234 or 5678: one guess like that rules out the most codes. Use the second try to test the remaining digits, then move the yellow digits into new positions. An optimal solver needs 3.89 tries on average; a typical player needs about 5.3.
Daily puzzle and practice mode
The daily code counts for the global leaderboard, and each player gets one daily game. Practice mode gives you unlimited random codes to sharpen your technique. Your stats track average tries, best game, solve time and your daily streak.
